{"id":1857,"date":"2026-04-17T01:28:26","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T01:28:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pittglobalnews.com\/?p=1857"},"modified":"2026-04-17T01:29:53","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T01:29:53","slug":"us-sanctions-two-children-of-nicaraguan-presidential-couple","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pittglobalnews.com\/es\/us-sanctions-two-children-of-nicaraguan-presidential-couple\/","title":{"rendered":"US sanctions two children of Nicaraguan presidential couple"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-post-author\"><div class=\"wp-block-post-author__avatar\"><img alt='' src='https:\/\/secure.gravatar.com\/avatar\/3e4ae43bae15dea12c5b45d328afa8b9e7a81886e7398b714d7a4c024995be60?s=48&#038;d=mm&#038;r=g' srcset='https:\/\/secure.gravatar.com\/avatar\/3e4ae43bae15dea12c5b45d328afa8b9e7a81886e7398b714d7a4c024995be60?s=96&#038;d=mm&#038;r=g 2x' class='avatar avatar-48 photo' height='48' width='48' \/><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-post-author__content\"><p class=\"wp-block-post-author__name\">AFP<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The United States on Thursday announced sanctions against two sons of Nicaragua&#8217;s<br>presidential couple, both of whom hold government posts, as well as several enterprises<br>involved with gold mining in the Central American country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Washington has branded the government of President Daniel Ortega and his wife and co<br>president, Rosario Murillo, a dictatorship, accusing it of seizing total power with a<br>constitutional rewrite and crushing dissent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The US Treasury Department&#8217;s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned Maurice<br>Facundo Ortega Murillo, who serves as Nicaragua&#8217;s presidential delegate for sports, and<br>Daniel Edmundo Ortega Murillo, who oversees Managua&#8217;s government communications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The State Department said in a statement regarding the sanctions that the Ortega-Murillo<br>presidency &#8220;has continually consolidated its illegitimate power into the first family&#8217;s hands,<br>anointing their children as dictatorship officials to carry out their dynastic objectives.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"state-department-complex-networkof-front-companies-and-intermediaries\">State Department: &#8220;complex network<br>of front companies and intermediaries&#8221;<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Since 2020, the dictatorship has restructured the gold sector into a complex network of front<br>companies and intermediaries designed to generate foreign currency, launder sanctioned<br>assets, and reinforce political control for their own benefit,&#8221; the State Department added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sanctions, which prevents those named from conducting business or holding assets in<br>the United States, extend to five other individuals and seven businesses connected to<br>Nicaragua&#8217;s gold mining industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nicaragua&#8217;s Minister of Energy and Mines Salvador Mansell has also been under US sanctions<br>since 2021.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The United States on Thursday announced sanctions against two sons of Nicaragua&#8217;spresidential couple, both of whom hold government posts, as well as several enterprisesinvolved with gold mining in the Central American country.
